How phlow is going to transform the world we know (and hate)

2018 has been a year of revelations when it comes to social media platforms and their blatant neglect of their users. Google and Facebook were accused of manipulating users into giving up their personal data, which has been shared and traded on a massive scale. Twitter is experiencing serious backlash for not having a strong stance on harassment online. Tumblr’s ban on adult content in December 2018 is a profound misunderstanding of who their audience is and has always been.

While everyone has been talking about the need for a change, no one has done anything about it. Well, except phlow.

We have built phlow, because we feel that users don’t have a choice but to go with the herd, put on a “blindfold” and pretend they don’t see a serious misuse of their personal data while curating their socially-desirable lives on social media and chasing “likes” and “followers”. In 2019, it’s not the way to go. We need a new medium of communication for sharing meaningful stories in front of the right audience, instead of faking perfect lives while others monetize on our personal data.

phlow is the new microblogging platform for visual storytellers. It is collaborative and immediate and revolves around its users. In phlow, our users are free to express themselves in a simple and compelling way, combining photos and text to tell stories. Our users are not prompted to share an indecent amount of personal information. User activity information is used by our behavioral engine to help them access relevant stories and get their stories found by their tribe.

Our audiences are not just our friends and connections, nor the entire world, but people who share what we stand for – our tribe. We want to be relevant and see what’s relevant to us. We don’t want to be “spammed” with content and ads that we didn’t choose to see. The next generation of users will demand a valuable, trusting experience and less “noise”. They won’t be so accommodating in sharing their personal information to make a profit for someone else.

Our goal is to help our users share and access relevant and meaningful stories that are close to their interests, to get recognized for their talent instead of their networking skills (i.e. number of “followers” and “likes”), and, ultimately, to get rewarded for their content contribution to our platform and the community.
